BIO
Fresh from high school, Daniel had his foot in the door in film & television at Liz Mullinar Casting where sessions in the studio exposed him to artificial light and his love affair with manipulating light began.
Following an offer to work on a clients television show, the time Daniel spent helping to construct an artificial world developed his instinct for understanding staging and how the camera interprets a scene.
Part time study in photography eventually led to Daniel committing to photography full-time and he graduated from Sydney College of the Arts with The University Medal and a portfolio of constructed scenes that he crafted from concept to the hand printing of large-scale prints in the darkroom. Much of his work was funded by small jobs that he photographed whilst still studying.
Post University, Daniel was drawn to assisting fashion photographers and was fortunate enough to work with some of Sydney's most respected. An unexpected relocation took him to Montréal, Canada where he continued to assist well established photographers both locally and internationally. Whilst in Canada Daniel committed to his own photography practice shooting portraits and objects for a diverse range of clients.
He continues to make time for personal work such as his recent music portrait series 'Future Classic x Daniel Shipp' and the 'Fashion Week Project'.
Awards include the Photo Technica New Australian Photo Artist of the Year, and the Luxe Quebec Grand Prize for Editorial Portraiture.
Daniel is currently based in Sydney.
